Im Jiho grew up as the middle son in a mixed family, magically speaking. His father had it running through his veins, and Jiho's older brother starting manifesting powers from a young age as well. It was their family secret, but one that drew them closer together. They would protect their family no matter what, and if that meant packing up and moving in the middle of the night because someone found out something that they shouldn't have, so be it. They did this, many times, taking them across the country.

Because of this, of all of this, Jiho never really made many friends. But it was okay as long as he had his brothers. Jiho also loved reading and singing and the scenery from state to state. His childhood and teen years were transient but mostly happy, with the exception of the expected sufferings of being a middle child, of sometimes feeling invisible between his older and younger brothers.

And then the war broke out, and everything changed. They still struggled to remain neutral and put their own family first, but their family secret was no longer a secret. The ugliness from both sides came out all around them, and one day Jiho's older brother announced that he was joining the war on the side of magic

A fight broke out between Jiho's brothers, ending with serious injury caused to the younger. His older brother fled, and when he woke up the next morning, Jiho's mother was gone as well. His father came to him, promising him that he would find them both and make their family whole again.

It was the last time Jiho ever saw any of them.

He tried to take care of his younger brother to the best of his ability. But the wound that his older brother had inflicted was festering, spreading. Jiho couldn't get a doctor to even look at him, as the human soldiers were given priority when it came to care and medicine. Jiho didn't have any better luck with the magical side, as the healers refused to help someone who'd been "marked" by one of their own.

Jiho turned to his own magic (because yes, he had it too). During those times when he felt unnoticed as a child, it was because he was literally unnoticeable, blending into the shadows like the ninjas that his younger brother always favored during their many "pirates vs. ninjas" debates. With no other means of providing for them, Jiho started to steal.

It's also when he first started to kill. Soldiers from both sides who got too close to them. Anyone who might find out that Jiho had taken from them and come after. The only way that Jiho felt like he was truly protecting his brother was if those people were dealt with for good. They literally never saw him coming.

All his efforts and the blood on his hands ultimately wasn't enough. The magical poison reached his brother's heart, breaking Jiho's with its last beat.

Jiho searched for his remaining family for awhile, not knowing what he would do if he found his older brother, not knowing what his mother would think of him if he found her. He tells himself that he's given up, that family no longer exists for him. And he won't change his mind, not even when he starts seeing his brothers' eyes in other faces.

emotionally distant - jiho has no problems with seeming like that cold, uncaring asshole. he loves his people fiercely, but believes it's better for them if they don't love him in return.
shows that he cares in practical ways (takes the worst tasks on himself, makes sure that everyone eats, etc.)
won't back down when confronted - there's a fine line between brave and foolish. jiho always straddles that line, fearless but sometimes reckless.
blunt - there's a sharpness to jiho's honesty. he's a big fan of tough love.
